Morning Clarity
It sounded as if the sea had disappeared, evaporated
overnight until
she spotted sun rays
dancing off its surface
with waves rippling horizontal
Peering over the edge of the world
the tiniest waves caressing the shore
babbled to her good morning goodmorning goodmorninggoodmorning
She ached for the tide to rise to the balcony
to swallow her and take her out to sea
the big world, or hide her from it,
she didn’t know.
Instead she blinked the thought a few times
out of her mind
inhaled crisp, salty air
into her clogged lungs
and headed back to the village to begin the day.
